How to maintain a quartz countertop

The advantages of quartz countertops are well-known across the market by this time. All customers know that quartz is a composite material of natural origin, is extremely durable, low maintenance, and generally the go-to solution for kitchen and bathroom countertops at this moment in time.

We have covered most aspects of quartz countertops in other articles, except one: what exactly does low maintenance mean?

Well, first of, let’s remember that quartz is a non-porous material, which doesn’t require any additional sealing. This means that the material is actually very hard to scratch, and most of the stains can be removed directly by scraping away the residue, rather than using chemical cleaners. Due to the smooth edge of the countertops, cleaning it should be incredibly easy – just use a soft cloth and warm water, and most of the regular kitchen dust or dirt should go away.

Spills and stains are not very serious issues, since they do not pass the surface of the material.

There are some things (permanent markers, some chemical solvents or dyes) which may cause permanent decoloration of the countertop.

Also, keep in mind that you should not expose the quartz to acids, free radicals, oxidizers or strong alkaline substances. The rule of thumb, in this case, is easy: no hard chemicals and the countertop should be okay.

The last thing you should know about quartz countertop maintenance is that they are NOT heat proof.

You should not place hot skillets or pans directly on the surface, since this may affect the structure of the stone through thermal shocks. Use heating pads and other such protective materials, and your countertop will last a lifetime.

As you can see, quartz countertops are very easy to maintain, which is why they are one of the most widely-used kitchen improvement at this time. This material is strong, durable, easy to clean and guaranteed to last many years – what more can we really want?
